Painting white garden roses in watercolor
June 17-18 2023 (Weekend Workshop)
Maybe you are wondering how to paint white flowers on white paper, or you wish to preserve your garden roses for posterity. I can help you with that. Learn how to paint roses like the Old Botanical Masters. In this in-depth 6-hour weekend workshop, we will create a composition with one or more pale roses, stems and leaves.
This workshop is open to all levels, from beginners to advanced artists and will teach you skills you can use to paint any subject from Nature.
LIVE ON ZOOM
Sat. June 17th 18:00-21:00 CET & Sun. June 18th 18:00-21:00 CET
(This is 9am-12pm PDT)
Taught in ENGLISH (all backgrounds welcome).
This is what you can expect:
You will get a detailed demonstration of all the techniques I use to paint roses. Each student will get the help and feedback they need and you will be able to ask questions during the painting sessions. The workshop is limited to 12 people and will not be recorded. All students should feel free to participate, share and discuss their work. This is the perfect solution if you can’t join for my weekly class, but do want to take a deep dive into botanical watercolour painting with me. After each session, I stay online and provide feedback for as long as there are still questions. Of course, we will have small breaks during the sessions.
You will learn the following skills:
How to paint from life in watercolour.
How to paint white or pale flowers.
How to use the wet-in-wet technique to create dreamy petals.
How to lift paint to create soft highlights.
How to build form and create strong colours with multiple layers of watercolour.
How to use warm and cool colours to your advantage.
How to mix colours and handle your brush.
How to create a pleasing composition.
…and much more.
What do I need to participate?
A laptop or tablet, your own watercolour supplies, fresh garden roses or normal roses (alternatively reference photo’s will be made available). If you need recommendations, we are happy to help:
Should I prepare anything?
In principle, you do not need to prepare for this workshop. We aim to paint from life, so it helps to pick fresh garden roses before the workshop. You are free to paint from any pale-coloured roses you like. If you do not have access to real roses, or prefer to paint from photo’s, we will also offer reference photo’s to work from.
Although we will create a watercolour painting from scratch (including creating outline drawings of all elements we paint), you are free to prepare your drawings in advance. We also offer outline drawings for you to trace if you wish to focus purely on painting.
